Hey–Thanks for stopping by my new blog home. I decided to go for using my first and middle name for my online coaching/teaching/writing work…
Mainly because my mom gave me this name. 🙂
I wanted to share a brief update that my mom recently passed away. I’m very sad, and I’ve been spending my time these past few weeks honoring her and trying my best to take care of myself…Long walks with Bear…and I actually took a little break from strength training and have been focused on just walking a lot and drinking lots of water and being really on with eating food that gives me energy…and taking care of myself. This past weekend on Friday we had a lovely group karaoke outing and I got to sing for several hours which made me feel really close to my mom (my mom was a singer and life-long full-time musician)…on Saturday I got to hear beautiful live music and dance samba…on Sunday we took the dog swimming and for a little hike and got groceries for the week.
And now I am back in the swing of things, literally (more about that soon)…weight training at HOME for convenience (and fabulous results)…
And here I am pressing play, on some things I’ve been working on for awhile now…not sharing from feeling shy/afraid…but also learning & growing in new ways in my weight training form expertise & coaching (thanks to several new influences)…publishing confidence & mindset inspiration (thanks to author Kat Loterzo)…and just getting the new version of my Booty Pump home & gym programs *dialed* for everyone.
A Beauty Walk morning long walk photo with Bear –>> taken before my mom passed.
Me and Tommy out dancing. My face def looks like I’ve been crying a lot..but it has been so important for me to go out and celebrate and feel connected to my mom…who does love music, dancing and celebrating life…
And I am VERY EXCITED to share a new shift in Fitness Philosophy with everyone! And I have to say that even though I have been sad, I do feel even more passionate than ever with my teaching and what I have to share here with everyone…
And…I have an uplifting & fun story to share with you! There’s a video on the next post and some fabulous “shake your booty fitness mindset” inspiration for you.
And back to my mom…and using the name she gave me 🙂
I decided to go for using my first and middle name for my online coaching/teaching/writing work…
Mainly because my mom gave me this name. 🙂
My passion for health and fitness has come partly from wanting to help my mom with her health.
And she has always, always believed in me…when I was starting a non-profit organization, moving to California, teaching high school English and then not, playing in a band, studying & performing Samba dance…
And in my current career of being a fitness and nutrition coach/writer/teacher/program creator…she thought this too was a crazy, but very good, idea.
Thanks mom for always cheering me on…and this business is in fact partly dedicated to my mom…and to me, and to my sister, and to all of the people who have loved my online programs and youtube videos…and to anyone who wants to be courageous, and put prioritizing your health, your nutrition, your body movement and exercise, your self-expression…as a priority in your life.
You have to prioritize yourself!
AND…you have to UPLIFT yourself…it’s really hard for anyone to do that FOR you.
(Awesome photo of me feeling UPLIFTED, dancing on stilts, in the NYC Dance Parade this past spring with my favorite dance partner, Tommy Wu 🙂 )
As much as I would like to inspire people to get IN to weight training…working out…dancing…wanting to eat nutrient-dense, flat belly foods…as much as I would like to inspire anyone to do that…
I’ve found that that is a completely impossible task. I’ve basically just finally surrendered to that fact.
You have to go there yourself. You have to WANT to take care of your health. You have to WANT to move your body–’cause you know it’s going to make you feel better when you do…
You have to WANT to have all the ENERGY from eating nutrient-rich food…and get into the MINDSET of all of the delicious, awesome yummy satisfying things you CAN eat…and stop lamenting all the stuff you really shouldn’t eat (if you’re putting your health, beauty, energy & booty as primary goals)…
Anyways…I’m here about to get out my MEGAPHONE and start shouting some really cool sh*t from the rooftops!
But I can’t promise that I’ll inspire you. You have to feel inspired yourself…And if you do…well, that is one. very. powerful, place. to. be.
Available Inspiration from Me:
I have a “6 Week Kettlebell Swing Challenge”with a fabulous home workout plan.
It’s the best answer I can come up with for people who want to weight train at HOME…and have the workouts be short…EFFECTIVE…and without having to buy lots of stuff to do them…or have to do insane bodyweight workouts that have you doing jumping split squats or feet elevated pushups or the like.
I’m all for keeping it FUN…keeping it SAFE…and sharing the MINDSET you need (plus the workout plan & food energy ideas you can use) to both LOVE & ENJOY the process of working out…and getting RESULTS.
Plus, it’s is SUCH a powerful way to get STOKED on weight training…and in carving out time for your fitness in a regular and POWERFUL and DO-ABLE way.
You can learn about my home workout plan here.
And lately a lot of people have been asking me:
What is up with you and focusing on teaching fitness & health?
Why aren’t you doing some other important job??…
Well, the reality for me is that it’s what I feel really passionate about right now (and for a while now :))…I’ve been through a really challenging time with trying to help my mom with her health…and having to choose to learn more & more about nutrition & movement to help my own health too.
So to cut to the nitty gritty…essentially when I have felt really *power-less* in my life (i.e. situations being beyond anything I can personally control)…moving my body and specifically dancing & lifting weights is really the only thing that allows me to come back to center and feel power-full.
And I just want to say, you really want to do everything in your power to avoid getting/or staving off the progress of a neurologically degenerative disease. It SUCKS. Degenerative diseases are so depressing, sad, painful…but we aren’t truly powerless in the face of them.
The most highly funded branch of science right now, Epigenetics, tells us that our genes can be switched on and off by environmental factors.
So basically, my sister and I are being pretty “strict” with eating nutrient-dense, fresh food…and working out. Finding ways to get out of stress. And I want to encourage other people to be “selfish” (as caring & making time for your health or being assertive about your healthy food choices is often deemed)…because this kind of self-care is crucial.
And I LOVE being a weight training teacher…
It’s been my dream to be a bad-ass, booty-focused, full body “intro to weight training” teacher…who specializes in helping you ROCK your FORM with lifting weights!
I think being a dancer & dance teacher (and longtime public school teacher at that)…makes me a really unique fitness coach…Plus, I have been studying with some of the absolute BEST coaches myself…and I feel really excited to share my passion and fabulous technique.
I’m hostessing a “6 Week Kettlebell Swing Challenge” that you can rock from the comfort of your home with my weight training & dance program…yay! More deets here.
Girl (or man)…I have basically stockpiled SO many cool things to share with you about dance and weight training…natural body care and beauty tips…and I absolutely freaking can’t wait to share them with everyone. I feel like I’ve finally reached a level of mastery with my coaching…and I’m excited to be sharing, writing and posting here.
Check out my Shake Your Booty Fitness PHILOSOPHY OF FIT blog post next…this is what I am MOST excited about sharing!
At the bottom of the post you can get a free Booty Movement Break series… As movement breaks are an important part of getting results with working out/walking/movement.
